Some words from QMUL Director of Music, Paul Edlin:
Music at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is developing at a pace, and we are delighted to be welcoming East London Music Group (ELMG), with whom we have an excellent ongoing and developing relationship, together with Edward Nesbit, who is our first QMUL Composer in Residence. ELMG will perform Façade by William Walton and Strange Joy by Edward Nesbit on Tuesday 24th November.
QMUL is a place that demonstrates innovation and excellence, indeed these two elements are in QMUL's bones. So it makes perfect sense to be engaging with one of the most dynamic new music ensembles around, and presenting a premiere by one of the UK's most gifted young composers. However, all this would mean little if there was no actual demonstrable impact on student experience. And this is where ELMG makes such a positive contribution. Our students value everything ELMG is and does.
Soon ELMG will bring to QMUL a very special education project involving East London primary schools and focusing on Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale. A critical initiative at this present time. So ELMG is also brilliantly supporting QMUL's remit in public engagement and widening participation. We are very grateful that they share the university's vision of serving the public good in the best ways achievable. Onward and upward!
